Children's Pastors

Carlton and Kathy Hughes have served as Children’s Pastors at Lynch Church of God since 2002. Previously they served as assistants in the youth department.

Carlton is a professor of communication at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. He has served the church in numerous capacities, including adult Bible teacher, Christmas play director, Vacation Bible School teacher and director, and secretary of men’s ministries. He is the two-time first place winner in the “Church Dramas/Skits” category of the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference Competition for Christmas plays he wrote for the church.

Kathy is a former kindergarten teacher at Victory Road Christian Academy and cosmetology instructor at Jenny Lea Academy. She has also held numerous positions in the church, including bassist for the praise team, member/helper in the ladies ministry, Vacation Bible School crafts teacher, special singer, and much more. She enjoys sharing her creative gifts of crafts with the church.

In 2001 Carlton and Kathy were led to start doing the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry at Lynch Church of God. They started out that year doing 37 boxes. God has taken the ministry to heights they never dreamed of, with last year's total increasing tenfold from that first year. Under the leadership of the Hughes', the church was asked to be the Harlan County Collection Center, which they have been doing for 14 years now. The couple also leads an annual trip in which members of the church volunteer at the Boone, NC Processing Center.

Carlton and Kathy live in Cumberland and have two sons, Noah and Ethan.
